The Commodores scored early and often in their 18-1 win over Byhalia on Monday night. In the second to last region game of the year, LHS (19-4 overall, 8-1 in region play) scored six runs in the top of the first inning, eight in the second and four in the fourth. LHS had 14 hits as a team, while Byhalia committed five errors.
Tyler Mize led the LHS offense with three and four RBIs. John Jeffrey Nelson had two hits and four RBIs, while Josh Mills had two hits and two RBIs. Jarrett Patton started for LHS and earned his seventh win of the year as he struck out four of the eight batters he faced. Reed Davis also threw and had two strikeouts in two innings of work. In action with Grenada on Saturday, Mills improved to 2-0 on the mound after helping lead the Commodores to a 9-2 win.
Dylan Gossett aided Mills with a solo home run in the second. Patton had a two-run double in the third, while Hunter Robison had a two-run triple in the fourth inning. Nelson had the big hit in the seventh as he drove in two runs with a single. Gossett also added to his RBI total with a run-scoring double in the frame.
