Lafayette softball captures region

Lafayette’s girls softball team continued to play well and demonstrate a potent offense with a 21-2 win over Byhalia on Tuesday night. The victory allowed the Lady Commodores to capture the Region 2-4A regular season title and finish as the No. 1 seed heading into the Class 4A playoffs next week. Lafayette collected 18 hits as a team and scored 13 of its runs in the first inning. M.C. Pate, Corey Hollis, Kendall Glass, Katrina Wilson, Sheana Witt, Kelsey Kesler and Cameron Mize all had multiple hits in the win. Wilson collected a home run, Hollis and Witt each had a triple, while Pate, Hollis, Kelser and Witt all had doubles. Kesler was the winning pitcher for Lafayette, who have now won five straight in the region. LHS will end its season on Thursday night at home against Byhalia.
