Lafayette reclaims first place with walk-off hit

Lafayette’s John Jeffrey Nelson couldn’t have picked a better time for his first high school walk-off hit than Thursday night.

With the score tied 8-8 and the bases loaded in the eighth inning, Nelson took the first pitch he saw from Lewisburg’s Chris Taylor back up the middle to score Jarrett Patton from third base to conclude a 9-8 come-from-behind win for the ‘Dores at W.V. Brewer Field.

After hitting the pitch, Nelson threw his hands in the air and trotted to first base, tossing his helmet high in the air about halfway up the first base line as his teammates swarmed the field to celebrate. (April 15, 2011, Page 6A)
