First-ever Rebel Choice Awards a success

Monday was a good night to be a member of the Ole Miss men’s and women’s tennis teams, the men’s basketball team as well as the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Those were just some of the teams that were honored during the inaugural Rebel Choice Awards held at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for Performing Arts on the Ole Miss campus.

Grove Bowl week got off to a dazzling start with an event that had the feel of the Oscars, or more appropriately the ESPY’s. Sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Rebel Choice Awards was created to honor athletics achievements from the past year.

Awards in 14 categories were handed out during the hour-long show hosted by ESPN announcer Clay Matvick, who routinely told jokes and shared stories about his experiences with Ole Miss sporting events over the years. (April 12, 2011, Page 2B)
