Chargers pound New Hope in tennis

Oxford continued its march towards the Class 5A playoffs on Tuesday with a 7-0 win over New Hope. Six of Oxford’s wins yielded no points for New Hope, while Collier Phillips, who played for Zach Wilder at boys singles, defeated Richy Lee 6-4, 6-0. Mary Bryan Barksdale downed Mary Swain in girls singles, Wilder and Robert Nance teamed to beat Tyler Warant and Zac Thrasher, while Ann Marie Edlin and Sterling Davis destroyed Natilee Dunser and Laura Oberbusher at No. 1 girls doubles. At mixed doubles, Andrew Mullen and Cari Hansen beat Michael Brocksmith and Lindsey Rice; the No. 2 boys doubles team of Arlis Williams and Baxter Elliott beat Kale Martin and Austin Oswalt, while Erin Dyer and Embrey Inman beat Bethany Vaughn and Hannah Bateman. Oxford (11-0 overall) will be back in action Thursday against Grenada at Aven Park. (April 6, 2011, Page 7)
