Oxford grabbed sole possession of first place in the division and grab a spot in the Class 5A playoffs on Tuesday with a 9-4 road win over New Hope.
Zac Barber led the Chargers by logging a complete game on the mound. Barber finished with eight strikeouts and only issued two walks during his seven innings.
Oxford (13-7 overall, 5-2 in 1-5A play) collected 11 hits as a team and only committed one error compared to four for New Hope.
Luke Gibbs led the OHS offense with three hits, including two doubles, and four runs scored. William Elliott also had an outstanding game at the plate as he drove in four runs, while Henry Webb drove in three.
Oxford scored four runs in the second inning and then tacked on two more runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. OHS will be back in action Friday at home against Saltillo at 7 p.m. (April 13, 2011, Page 10)
