Brunetti, Mackey shine in spring finale

Ole Miss’ annual Grove Bowl game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday was more about defining roles and the team moving forward into summer drills with some defined leaders taking charge.
The race to find out who will be this year’s starting quarterback continued during the contest that ended in a 17-17 tie, with Randall Mackey and Barry Brunetti taking almost all of the snaps due to Nathan Stanley leaving the program and Zack Stoudt being held out due to disciplinary reasons.

Mackey quarterbacked the Red and he was 9-for-18 for 151 yards and a touchdown, while Brunetti was 12-for-21 for 211 yards and two scores. Both threw interceptions (Brunetti had two), and both showed elusiveness that Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is looking for from his starter. (April 18, 2011, Page 4B)
