AUBURN, Ala. — An inability to capitalize on mistakes and sustain a lead hurt the Ole Miss baseball team once again during Saturday’s rubber match on The Plains.
With the series against Auburn on the line, the Rebels scored in bunches to open the game but weren’t able to push across runs late when it needed to hold off Auburn during its 9-7 loss at Plainsman Park.
Ole Miss, which defeated the Tigers 10-7 on Friday, scored five runs in the first two innings, and another two runs in the fifth, the Tigers plated one run in every frame but the sixth and seventh.
After being held scoreless in the sixth, first baseman Kevin Patterson more than made up for it in the next frame with a three-run homer over the right-field wall.
Patterson’s seventh home run of the season — and second against Ole Miss — put the Tigers ahead for good. (April 25, 2011, Page 1B)
