The Lafayette Commodores were able to hold off a seventh-inning rally Tuesday night to capture a 3-2 win over Region 2-4A foe Center Hill at W.V. Brewer Field.
Trailing 3-1 to start the last frame, the Mustangs’ Evan Gilder reached by way of an error to leadoff the inning. Dores’ starter Jarrett Patton was able to get the following two batters out before things got shaky.
Patton hit the next hitter, Mustangs’ leadoff batter Colton Sutton, to put runners on first and second base. Next, Jared Thompson connected on the first pitch he saw from Patton to score Gilder from second to cut the score to within one.
With runners on second and third, Dores’ coach Greg Lewis turned to Luke Stanley to relieve Patton. Stanley got out of the jam and sealed the win by inducing a groundout for the final out. (April 6, 2011, Page 7)
