WVHS thwarts Lady Chargers’ rally

It wasn’t a clean game by any means but both Oxford and Water Valley were able to take positives away from Thursday’s 8-7 decision that went the way of the Lady Blue Devils.

For the visiting Lady Chargers, head coach Lauren Hill was proud of her team’s ability to piece together a five-run sixth inning to take a brief 7-5 lead.
Trailing 5-2, Oxford sent 11 players to the plate in the frame and took advantage of several Water Valley miscues to move ahead of the home squad.

After scoring two runs on an error and a bases-loaded walk, lone senior Kathryn Stocks tallied a two-RBI single to put Oxford (2-6-1overall) ahead for the first time in the game.

One inning earlier, Moe Pegues had tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run homer over the left field wall. (March 25, 2011, Page 8A)
