A young, energetic coach with a successful track record of recruiting in the Deep South were just some of the qualifications Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Bruce Van De Velde was looking for in a new men’s basketball coach. Luckily for Van De Velde, he found all of those intangibles, and more, in former Ole Miss basketball standout Michael White, who was officially introduced as the Bulldogs’ 17th head coach Wednesday.
White left the Ole Miss staff and coach Andy Kennedy for the opportunity to run his own program, and in the process, turn around the Bulldogs, who were just 12-20 overall last season and an even worse 2-14 in the Western Athletic Conference. For Van De Velde, White emerged as the top candidate and after a face-to-face meeting on Monday, felt like he was the coach the program needed to hire. (March 31, 2011, Page 7)
