Strikers claim victory in Tupelo tournament

The Oxford Strikers, an Under 12 DII Challenge Soccer Team, won the March Madness DII Classic Soccer Tournament in Tupelo this past weekend. It was the first tournament victory for the Strikers since the formation of the team in 2007. Oxford won its pool by defeating New Albany 3-1, Amory 4-0 and Columbus 3-0. The Strikers then beat the Tupelo Fury 5-2 to capture the overall title.Kyle Rock led the team with six goals in the tournament. Neil Chandler had four goals, Cole Calhoon had three goals, while Trent Collier and Robert Rauschenberger each scored a goal.

Oxford will return to competition again in the April Ambush April 2-3 that will be held at FNC Park. (March 9, 2011, Page 8)
