BLOG — Ole Miss is just hours away from meeting South Carolina in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament inside Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy and players Chris Warren and Zach Graham met with the media Wednesday in the Georgia Dome prior to their practice session Wednesday.
Kennedy was asked about past SEC Tournaments and why success has alluded the Rebels, who haven’t won an SEC Tournament game since Kennedy’s first season.
“SEC Tournament wise, I don’t know. What has happened in the past has absolutely zero to do with this team and this year. It really is about us and South Carolina. We’re very familiar with them, as I’m sure they are with us, having just played a few days ago,” Kennedy said. “For this team, I think we have certainly shown “capable.” We have been consistently inconsistent in a number of areas and that’s something that’s got to get corrected if we want to stay.”
If the Rebels do beat South Carolina today, then they will take on No. 15 Kentucky on Friday at 2:30 p.m. (central). Kentucky (22-8 overall) finished as the No. 2 seed out of the SEC East this season. Ole Miss beat the Wildcats 71-69 in Oxford earlier this season.
Today’s game with the Gamecocks can be heard locally on 93.7 FM and seen locally on Metrocast Channel 3 through the SEC Network. Tipoff is approximately scheduled for 2:30. (March 10, 2011)
