Ole Miss’ Sofie Persson broke her own school record in the 800 meters and automatically qualified for next week’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at a last-chance qualifier meet hosted by Iowa State on Saturday. Persson broke the record with a winning time of 2 minutes:04.51 seconds, which is under the NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 2:05.00. “We felt like Sofie was ready for a fast race,” OM coach Joe Walker said. “While it didn’t happen last week at SEC’s, it was great to see it happen today. Automatic marks are extremely hard to get, so this was a significant effort on her part. I am very proud for her.” (March 7, 2011, Page 8A)
