Locals took part in a state wide survey as part of the Mississippi Economic Council’s Blueprint Mississippi action plan on Tuesday. The show is visiting 20 communities in the state to get feedback before organizing a plan in the fall on how the state can improve. (March 30, 2011, Page 1)

New OHS plans approved

Construction can now begin on the $30 million new Oxford High School after the city planning commission approved the site plan on Tuesday.

Chargers win annual matchup with LHS

The annual Crosstown Classic tennis matchup between Oxford and Lafayette ended up going the way of the Chargers on Tuesday evening at Avent Park. OHS went on to defeat LHS 7-0 in a competitive match that had some tight moments. (more…) (March 30, 2011, Page 6)

Commodores extend winning streak to 10

Scoring a bunch of runs in two one-sided wins over Tunica-Rosa Fort on Tuesday at W.V. Brewer Field wasn’t the main thing on Lafayette baseball coach Greg Lewis’ mind. Although he was happy knowing that his team improved to 4-0 in the division with 15-0 and 19-0 wins over the Lions in a doubleheader, it was how his team has come together since the start of the year that Lewis was more pleased with. Ole Miss tangles with No. 20 USM tonight

The Ole Miss Diamond Rebels will step away from their Southeastern Conference schedule tonight to face the red-hot No. 20 Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg.

Over their last four games, USM (18-5 overall) is averaging 14.5 runs per game and scored 43 in its three-game series victory against Tulane last weekend. (March 30, 2011, Page 6)

OM’s Mike White hired by La. Tech

The desire to be the head  men’s basketball coach at the Division I level has led Ole Miss assistant coach Mike White back to the state of Louisiana. White, a former Rebel basketball standout who most recently served as a member of Andy Kennedy’s staff, was hired by Louisiana Tech today to help lead the Bulldogs to the top of the Western Athletic Association and beyond. Abundance of errors dooms Chargers

Committing five errors in a single game is going to make for a long evening for any team.

Lafayette claims season sweep over WVHS

A heartbreaking one-run loss to Senatobia last Friday night is something the Lafayette Lady Commodores didn’t allow to linger  on Tuesday against the Water Valley Blue Devils. Instead of playing flat and unfocused, LHS was able to overcome the setback with a 6-3 home win over the Lady Blue Devils to sweep the season series.

Six different players recorded at least one hit in the victory that saw LHS break a 2-2 tie with four runs in the third inning. (more…) (March 30, 2011, Page 7)
