Oxford’s middle school boys track team got the 2011 season off to a good start at Pontotoc. Michael McGee won the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 3 inches.
McGee also tied for first in the discus and was fourth in the high jump. K.T. McCollum won the high jump and triple jump. D.K. Hutchins won the long jump, while D.K. Metcalf placed third.
B.J. Carothers placed third in the triple jump.
Collen Lei rounded out the strong showing in field events by finishing third in the shot put and fourth in the discus. Robert Ferris and McCollum finished first and second in the 110 hurdles with times of 14.6 and 14.9 seconds.
McCollum also won the 300 hrudles with a 48.2, while Harland Stewart was second with a 48.9.
The 4×200 meter relay team of Devin Williams, Hutchins, Ferris and Larecio McNeal placed first with a time of 1 minute, 41.3 seconds. McNeal won the 100, while Williams finished third. Tristan Orman was strong in longer runs, finishing second in the 3,200 and first in the 800.
Pruett Griffin won the 1,600 with a 5:31, while Ivan Lopez was second. The 4×100 relay team of Williams, McGee, Hutchins and McNeal finished first with a 40.7. McNeal also finished first in the 400 with a 58.7.
Oxford will be back in action Thursday with the OMS Invitational.
Field events will begin at 3:30, while running events will be at 3:45. (March 30, 2011, Page 7)
