Lafayette tennis falls at Tupelo

Lafayette’s tennis team learned from its tough matchup against Class 6A opponent Tupelo on Monday despite dropping the match 6-1.
Lafayette’s lone point came in the No. 2 boy’s doubles matchup, where Jacob Roberts and Hunter Knight topped Van Moore and Benton Banko 6-4, 7-5.

At boy’s singles, Andrew Hildenbrand topped Garrett Reed 6-0, 6-0 and in girl’s singles, Casey Marshall snuck past Mallory Davis in a close match 6-4, 0-6, 10-4.

At No. 1 boy’s doubles Aaron Hildenbrand and Austin Pillow defeated T.J. Hollis and Barron Pruitt 6-1, 6-3.

In the two girl’s doubles matches, Lauren Bell and Leslie Hamm had a tough time defeating Ashley Smith and Lauren Cullen 7-5, 6-4, while the combo of Kathryn Owen and Abbey Pate fell to Sarah Hollingsworth and Ashley Williams 6-1, 6-1.

In mixed doubles, Tyler Odom and Sarah Cox fell to Zac Baldwin and Kat Straton 6-0, 6-1.

Lafayette (4-2 overall) is scheduled to return to the court today (weather permitting) to face Oxford at Avent Park at 4 p.m. (March 29, 2011, Page 9)
