The Lafayette Commodores baseball squad rallied to top Olive Branch 6-5 on Thursday at W.V. Brewer Field.Down 5-4, Lafayette scored two runs in the seventh inning thanks to a single from Josh Mills that scored Luke Stanley and a wild pitch with the bases loaded that scored Hunter Robinson.
Following the game, LHS coach Greg Lewis said he was proud of his team for its comeback, especially considering how last year’s game against the Conquistadors turned out.
In particular, Lewis said Stanley did a tremendous job on the mound.
Stanley struck out 11 and walked just one in 7.0 innings to earn the win.
“Luke just did a great job filling up the zone,” Lewis said. “He had all of his pitches working. The defense did a good job behind him, but he’s the one that made it happen for us tonight.”
Lewis also made a point to single out Mills’ effort at the plate.
Mills went 3-for-4 with a triple for the Commodores.
Lafayette returns to action on Saturday, traveling to South Panola for games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (March 11, 2011, Page 8A)
