Lafayette’s middle school baseball team earned two lopsided 14-0 wins over South Panola Thursday. Both wins were no-hitters for the Commodores, who had four pitchers combine to strike out 19 batters.
Austin Arrington started the first game and finished with five strikeouts in three innings. Jack McPhail relieved Arrington and finished with three strikeouts. Eli Murphree was the starter in the second game and he recorded six strikeouts, while his brother, John, had five strikeouts in two innings.
Eli Murphree had two hits and three RBIs in the first game, but the biggest run producer on the evening was Hunter Bishop, who drove in five and collected three hits, including a home run. Arrington had two hits and an RBI while Ryan Holland added a single and an RBI. Eli Murphree had two hits and two RBIs in the second game, while Cory Isom added a triple and two RBIs.
Lafayette will be back in action Monday at Oxford. Action begins at 5 p.m. (March 4, 2011, Page 8A)
