The Commodores narrowly missed out winning in boys doubles and mixed doubles Thursday in their tennis match with Pontotoc. The setbacks ended up resulting into a 5-2 win for Pontotoc. Mallory Davis earned one of the two points for LHS in the match as she defeated Lauren Clayton 6-1, 6-1 in singles action. The other win for the Commodores came at No. 2 boys doubles as Hunter Knight and Jacob Roberts topped Jacob Hatcher and Jacob Ferguson 6-1, 7-5.Pontotoc’s Ryan Henry beat Garrett Reed 6-1, 6-2 in boys singles. At No. 1 boys doubles, Pontotoc’s Cameron Timmons and Deaton McAuley downed Barron Pruitt and Tyler Odom 6-3, 3-6, 8-10. At No. 1 girls doubles, Katherine Downing and Haley Walker topped Hayley Hamann and Sarah Cox 6-1, 6-0, while at No. 2 girls doubles, Ivy Robbins and Anna Chrestman beat Kathryn Owen and Abbey Pate 6-2, 6-1. In the mixed doubles match Lafayette’s T.J. Hollis and Ashley Smith fell 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 11-13 to Pontotoc. The Commodores will be back in action against Senatobia. (March 4, 2011, Page 8A)
