Lady Rebels fall to Vanderbilt

Playing without junior All-American Kristi Boxx for the second match in a row, the Ole Miss women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 10 Vanderbilt at the Currey Tennis Center on Sunday.Boxx did not make the trip due to a death in the family. Despite her absence, the Rebels still had chances to make the final score a lot closer.

“You’re never OK with a loss, but give Vanderbilt credit. At the critical moments they played better than we did,” OM coach Mark Beyers said. “We were winning Laura’s match, Abby was up 4-2 in the second set and Caroline had break points at 5-5 in the first set. We had some opportunities to make it a lot closer. When we didn’t convert some of those chances, it gave Vanderbilt the momentum. Playing without Kristi was obviously tough against a very good team, but all things considered, we’ll take 1-1 in the SEC right now.” (March 7, 2011, Page 8A)
