An improved effort wasn’t enough to lift the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils past the defending Class 3A state champion Nettleton Lady Tigers on Tuesday night. Water Valley dropped its season opener 10-2 to the Lady Tigers, the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season en route to the title.Tuesday’s effort was improved, however, and first-year head coach Kendra Bensch, who was an assistant for WVHS last year, thought her team’s improved effort was evident. (March 2, 2011, Page 7)
