Great energy lifts Rebs past USC

Ole Miss’ consistently inconsistent style of play wasn’t very visible during Thursday’s game against South Carolina in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament.Sure, the Rebels had moments where they looked like the team that lost nine games in league play, but for most of the game, they played with great energy and worked as a cohesive group, something that always hasn’t happened this year.

The end result was a 66-55 win over the Gamecocks and a matchup with No. 15 Kentucky today in the second round of the tournament at the Georgia Dome.

Ole Miss (20-12 overall) led for all but two minutes of Thursday’s game. After the Gamecocks (14-16) scored the first five points of the game, the Rebels went on a 17-0 run to take control. Chris Warren, who was recently named the to All-SEC team, finished with 20 points to lead the Rebels in scoring like he usually does, but he also got a lot of help along the way. (March 11, 2011, Page 6A)
