Crouse, Morgan pace Rebels in series opener

A pinch of scoring and the dominant pitching performances of Matt Crouse and Jake Morgan was all the Ole Miss Rebels needed on Friday to claim a 4-0 victory over the Alabama Tide at Oxford-University Stadium.Ole Miss jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run home run by outfielder Zach Kirksey, an RBI-single by Blake Newalu and an Alabama error that allowed Tanner Mathis to score.

That would be all the scoring the Rebels needed as Crouse combined with Morgan to hand the Tide their first shutout defeat since 2008.

Crouse improved to 5-0 on the season, striking out seven while allowing just three hits in 6.2 innings. Morgan earned his fifth save of the season by pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out three in the process. (March 21, 2011, Page 2B)
