Baker motivated to prove critics wrong

Tyler Baker has a sizable chip that resides squarely on the shoulders of his 5-foot-10, 187-pound frame.

That’s not to say Baker, a football standout at Brook Hill School in Bullard, Texas, is mad at the world.

He’s not.It does, however, mean that he’s hoping his recent commitment to Ole Miss will pave the way for him to prove to those who overlooked or doubted him that they were wrong.

During his senior season, Baker passed for over 1,000 yards, rushed for more than 800 yards and found the end zone 33 times.

Despite those standout statistics, Baker’s offer list only included Middle Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Army and Navy.

Instead of signing on Feb. 2 with one of the aforementioned teams, Baker opted to hold off on making a decision in hopes of finding a better option.

His patience appears to have paid off. (March 7, 2011, Page 8A)
