Fish Fry Fundraiser

Joyful Generation of Anchor Baptist Church will hold its annual fish fry and auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, with the live auction beginning at 5:30. Plates are available for an $8 donation and includes fish, fries, slaw, dessert and drink. Carry-outs will be available. Items being auctioned off will include a handmade quilt, a signed football and baseball, household items and gift cards. Door prizes will be given out every 15 minutes. Homemade cakes and pies will also be available to purchase. The church is located on Highway 7 South in Water Valley. (March 31, 2011)

Illusions busted for selling alcohol without permit

The owner of the popular nightclub Illusions Sports Bar and Grill has been charged with selling alcohol without a permit, according to the Alcohol Beverage Control’s Enforcement Agency. The club remains open, however it can only sell nonalcoholic beverages. (March 31, 2011, Page 2)

  • James Hugh Cross — 83, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the West Augusta United Methodist Church, in West Augusta, Va., with burial to follow in the West Augusta Cemetery.
  • Bernice Easley Embry — 96, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Calhoun Health Services Nursing Home in Calhoun City. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce, with Elder Herman Clark and son Robert Embry officiating. Burial will follow in the Bruce Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
  • Randle “Randy” O’Neal Johnson — 38, died Friday, March 25, 2010. Services will be held at noon Saturday at Clear Creek M.B. Church, with the Rev. Bobby Hall officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope M.B. Church in Oxford. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Serenity-Martin Funeral Home, with family present from 5 to 7.
