A year of hard work on the recruiting trail ended up paying off for Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt and his staff Wednesday on National Signing Day. Following a year where the Rebels went 4-8 on the field, Nutt was able to land his best class of freshmen and newcomers since he arrived in Oxford from Arkansas.Twenty-two players signed letters of intent to play for Ole Miss starting this fall Wednesday, while five mid-year junior college players and a transfer — quarterback Barry Brunetti — added to a class that was ranked as high as No. 18 in the country by Rivals.com.
Several need areas were addressed with this year’s signing class, including adding depth at the quarterback position, defensive backfield, linebacker and wide receiver, where the Rebels landed three of the top prospects in the state of Mississippi and five overall. (February 3, 2011, Page 6)
