Tuesday night’s Class 3A first-round playoff game between the Water Valley Blue Devils and the Alcorn Central Bears boiled down to one play.In a game that was eventually decided in overtime against two evenly matched teams, it was a last-second shot in regulation by Water Valley’s Fred McGee that ultimately turned the game and led to Alcorn’s hard-fought 58-52 win over WVHS.
With just 2.2 seconds left in regulation, veteran WVHS coach John Sherman decided to use a play named “Panther” to help launch the Blue Devils into the 3A North Half tournament. (February 16, 2011, Page 8)
