Lafayette’s boys powerlifting team had a successful weekend as 10 of the 12 lifters qualified for the North Half meet March 5. Jamel Dennis, Mario Toles, Demetrius Owens and D.Q. Reynolds all finished in first place for the Commodores, who finished second at the district meet held at Lexington McClain.
McClain won the event with 67 points, while LHS followed with 57.
Dennis finished first in the 198-pound weight class with a total 1,155 pounds. He squatted 450 pounds, bench pressed 260 pounds and deadlifted 465 to gain the final total. Toles was first in the 275 class with a 1,340. He had a 580 squat, 240 bench and a 550 deadlift. Owens was first in the 308 class with a 1,275. He squatted 580, benched 305 and deadlifted 420. Reynolds was first in the show class with a 1,350. He squatted 500, benched 300 and deadlifted 560. (February 16, 2011, Page 7)
