The following people have qualified to run in the 2011 Lafayette County local and state elections. Incumbents are denoted with an (i).

Board of Supervisors

  • District 1 — Democrat Mike Pickens (i); Republicans Don J. Brewer and Bill Plunk; Independent John Davis
  • District 2 — Democrats Jeff Busby, Sherwood Holland and Johnny Morgan (i)
  • District 3 — Democrats Robert Blackmon (i), Janice Carr and Martin L. Tyson; Independent Joanne Wilkinson

District 12 includes Oxford and surrounding areas to the north, east and south. Rep. Noal Akins is not seeking reelection. Candidates for the seat are:

  • Hollaman “Holly” Raney, Democrat
  • Ron Shapiro, Democrat

District 10 includes portions of west and central Lafayette County, including Burgess, College Hill, the Sardis Lake area, Bay Springs, Yocona and Markette. It also includes portions of Panola and Tallahatchie counties. Rep. Warner McBride is not seeking reelection. Candidates for the position are:

  • Jordan Bankhead, Democrat
  • Gregg Hodges, Democrat
  • Nolan Mettetal, Republican
  • Doug Jones, Republican

District 13 includes the northern, eastern and southern edges of Lafayette County, including Harmontown, Abbeville, Lafayette Springs and Paris. It also includes portions of Benton, Marshall and Union counties. Rep. Jack Gadd is not seeking reelection. Candidates include:

  • Jeff King, Democrat

District 33 includes the southwest portion of Lafayette County, including Taylor and Orwood, as well as parts of Tallahatchie and Yalobusha counties. Candidates are:

  • Sean T. Holmes, Libertarian
  • Tommy Reynolds (i), Democrat

State Senate

District 9 includes all of Lafayette County and portions of Yalobusha and Tallahatchie counties.
