OM’s Kennedy talks about team, future
Ole Miss men’s basketball coach Andy Kennedy spent more time talking about his team’s inability to play consistently this season and the future of the program with him leading it than he did about Saturday’s opponent, Alabama, on Thursday.
Kennedy’s weekly meeting with the media was filled with questions about why his team hasn’t been able to back up talk of improving on the court and how he keeps a team that is not in line to make the upcoming NCAA Tournament focused the final three regular season games. (February 25, 2011, Page 6A)

Experienced squads set to begin ’11 season
Senior leadership is something all three area high school baseball teams have in abundance heading into the 2011 season.
Lafayette, Oxford and Water Valley all return multiple position players from teams that were more than competitive on the diamond in 2010.
The Blue Devils advanced the farthest of any team from the area last year and with seven returners back from a team that won the Class 3A North Half title, successful results are expected again this year. (February 25, 2011, Page 7A)

Area coaches ready for softball season
There is a lot of reason to be excited about the upcoming high school softball season if you’re one of the three area coaches from Lafayette, Oxford and Water Valley.
The Lady Commodores, led by Cay Papagolos, return a bevy of talented players from a team that advanced to the Class 4A playoffs last season. In Oxford coach Lauren Hill’s case, a new field and several newcomers have given her program a brand new start at turning things around, while in Kendra Bensch’s case, Water Valley has the best player in the area in Ashley Phillips as well as a talented nucleus that includes four seniors and three juniors overall. The 2011 season begins this weekend for the three teams, with Oxford hosting the second annual Charger Classic at its new softball field on campus and at FNC Park. (February 25, 2011, Page 7A)
‘Antigone’ returns as fundraiser

DH Snyder still finding his swing
Matt Snyder appears to be getting back into the swing of things, so to speak.
After being held off of the diamond for the majority of nine months due to shoulder surgery and then a re-injury to the shoulder, the junior has come back in a big way for the Ole Miss Rebels.
Wednesday’s walk-off single was just the most recent accomplishment for Snyder, who is leading Ole Miss heading into this weekend’s three-game series at Houston with a .471 batting average and a .625 on-base percentage. (February 25, 2011, Page 8A)
