Ole Miss softball drops two games

The Ole Miss women’s softball team dropped both games on opening day of the 2011 season at the Kajikawa Classic. Ole Miss lost to Utah in the opener and then fell to San Jose State on Thursday.Three Ole Miss errors allowed Utah to score six unearned runs, as the Lady Rebels fell 10-0 to the Utes at the in the opening game.

A bases-loaded error by outfielder Amanda Hutcheson allowed three Utah runners to score in the third to stake the Utes to a 6-0 lead. Utah jumped on the board in the first on RBI singles by designated player Cheyella Myers and shortstop Kelsi Hoopiiaina.

Leftfielder Brittany Broome led the Rebels at the plate recording two singles in two at-bats. Brittany Barnhill, Erinn Jayjohn and Cali Overbeck each also singled. (February 11, 2011, Page 7A)
