SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Former Oxford High sprinter Horatio Williams is off to a great start on the indoor track for his new team, LSU.Williams, who signed with the Tigers this past summer after a standout career at Hinds Community College, just helped the men’s team capture the New Balance Collegiate Invitational held in New York, the team’s first in the annual event in five years and fourth overall. Williams won the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.64 seconds on Friday. It was Williams’ third win in the 60 this indoor season.
He then came back and finished second in the 200 on Saturday with a time of 20.99. Willliams has run all three of his 200 races in under 21 seconds. Williams earned the SEC Runner of the Week on Jan. 18 and his standout performances have helped the Tigers garner a No. 1 ranking in the nation. (They are currently No. 2 in the latest polls).
