Oxford’s baseball team rebounded from a 13-1 loss to Northwest Rankin Saturday to post a come-from-behind win over Ridgeland. The Chargers’ 5-4 win was aided by several players, including Hunt Halford, who earned the win on the mound in relief of starter Zac Barber. Henry Webb had two hits and an RBI, while William Elliott also had two hits, including a double in the victory. Oxford trailed Ridgeland 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning when it went ahead for good with three runs.
Halford then held Ridgeland in the bottom half of the frame to preserve the road victory. Halford finished with two strikeouts in his two innings of work, while Barber had eight strikeouts in five innings.
Guy Cameron Billups and James Lear also had RBIs in the win for OHS, while Dustin Williams and Halford collected the other hits for the Chargers, who only had one hit in the loss to NW Rankin.
Oxford will be back in action Tuesday at Olive Branch. (February 28, 2011, Page 8)
