Meals made for hungry kids
More than 700 volunteers from around Oxford and the University of Mississippi helped prepare 142,000 meals that will be shipped off to Kenya this summer as part of the Feed the Hunger Pack-A-Thon that took place this weekend in the old Walmart building, located next to the Malco Theater. - Opal Geraldine James Bowles — 80, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 2 this afternoon at Yellow Leaf Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Yellow Leaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the church. Waller Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
- Kimberly Carmen Buford — 28, died Friday at her residence in Upper Malboro, Md. Arrangements are incomplete with Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home in Oxford.
- Dolores Owen Busby — 84, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 2 this afternoon in the chapel of Waller Funeral home. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
- Lilia Arcenas Hughes — 67, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. Services were held this morning in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home,.
- Anthony Lee — 80, died Sunday at his residence in Memphis. Arrangements are incomplete with Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford.
- Dorothy Richardson — 80, died Saturday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Arrangements are incomplete with Waller Funeral Home of Oxford.

Rebels get gritty in win over Alabama
Speculation of how the Ole Miss Rebels would finish out the remainder of the season was temporarily put to rest Saturday afternoon at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum. After dropping two straight road games at Mississippi State and South Carolina, the Rebels showed great energy and grit in a 68-63 come-from-behind win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Ole Miss gets offensive to take series from Houston
The Ole Miss offense pounded out 17 hits to give great run support to the pitching staff and help grab a series win on the road with an 8-3 win over Houston Sunday on Cougar Field. The Rebels (7-1 overall) beat Houston 4-2 on Friday and rebounded from an 8-2 loss on Saturday.
Tanner Mathis led the Rebels with a 4-for-4 day, while Matt Snyder went 3-for-5 and Zach Kirksey went 3-for-4, including a two-run home run from Kirksey that helped propel Ole Miss to the win. (February 28, 2011, Page 7)
Oxford welcomes 50 new citizens to the US
Carolina Orrego had wanted to be an American citizen since she moved to Orlando at age 15. Now as an employee of the University of Mississippi, Orrego finally received her wish on Friday along with 49 others from 19 countries during the naturalization ceremony held at the federal courthouse.
