WVHS gets tough in latest victories

Two tough, hard-nosed efforts led to two wins for the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils and Blue Devils in Division 2-3A action against Nettleton on Tuesday night in the WVHS gym.

Water Valley’s girls got the night off to a good start with a 74-65 win, while the Blue Devils ended a two-game losing streak in division play with a 53-39 win in the nightcap.C.C. Phillips led the Lady Blue Devils (8-9 overall, 2-2 in division play) with 38 points in the win, while a decided advantage at the free-throw line helped the team keep Nettleton at bay. Haley Vance and Ashley Phillips, the team’s two other top scorers, finished with 17 and 16 points respectively. WVHS went 27-for-38 from the free-throw line in the win, a tremendous improvement in an area that has seen the team shoot around 50 percent the past couple of games. (January 26, 2011, Page 7)
