Women netters rally to top SMU

Freshman Caroline Rohde-Moe came up big in just her second dual match for the Lady Rebels, clinching a come-from-behind 4-3 victory for the No. 17 Ole Miss women’s tennis team against No. 27 SMU in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Sunday at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.The Lady Rebels will face the winner of the No. 13 Tennessee/No. 33 Ohio State match today at 1 p.m. in the championship.
The winner of today’s match will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Final 16.

“This was a great college tennis match with two very good teams that went down to the wire,” OM coach Mark Beyers said. “We are very proud of the girls; it was an excellent effort by everyone.

“SMU is a very good team, and this win will definitely help us at the end of the season. It took everything we had, but we are happy to come away with the victory.”

In her biggest win of her All-American career, junior Kristi Boxx, ranked No. 21 in the nation defeated the No. 2 ranked player, Marta Lesniak, 6-4, 7-6(4) at No. 1 singles to even the match at 2. (January 31, 2011, Page 8)
