SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Last weekend’s official visit to Oxford for Philadelphia LB C.J. Johnson got Ole Miss another important verbal commitment today.
Johnson said earlier in the afternoon Wednesday that his most recent visit to Oxford was “awesome” and it got him closer to making a final decision on where he wanted to go to school, which has now turned out to be Ole Miss.
The 6-foot-3, 243-pound Johnson said his visit to Oxford this past weekend was “way better” than his official visit to Starkville the prior weekend. He added that his visit to Oxford got him closer to a final decision on what school he would sign with. Johnson said he was unsure if he would visit LSU before making a final decision. He added that he would know if he would make a trip to Baton Rouge on Thursday.
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt was expected to make an in-home visit with Johnson on Thursday, a day after MSU coach Dan Mullen was scheduled to stop by. Those schedule visits may change with the latest developments. LSU coach Les Miles made his in-home visit with Johnson last week. Johnson, who was originally committed to play for MSU up until former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz left for Texas, talked highly about Nutt and his hobbies, interests outside of football.
“He’s into stuff that I like doing. I don’t ride horses, but he likes to hunt and fish. He likes being outdoors like I do,” Johnson said, who added the highlight of his visit to Oxford was being around the other recruits and the way the entire group was treated by the OM coaching staff.
Johson ended today’s conversation saying that recruiting had been “getting bad” with all the phone calls he has been getting from reporters to find out where he might be headed. (January 25, 2011)
