Oxford’s Kendricks sets record at LSU

Oxford High track standout Sam Kendricks set a new OHS indoor pole vault record of 14 feet, 6 inches at the the LSU High School Indoor Invitational Saturday. The previous record was shared both by Joseph Stevens and Kelly Drewery. Kendricks finished third overall in the competition against the most elite vaulters in the nation and he is currently ranked 19th in the nation for all vaulters. It was Kendricks’ first indoor competition. “Sam was a little disappointed with the effort,” OHS coach Scott Kendricks said. “He’s been jumping much higher in practice, but we see this as a good starting point for 2011.”

Kendricks is scheduled to compete at other indoor events, including meets at Arkansas and Kentucky. (January 10, 2011, Page 7)
