The Oxford basketball program had a great day on the hardwood on Friday, sweeping Saltillo. The Oxford boys cruised to a 91-49 victory while the Lady Chargers also won 72-51. Both teams improved to 2-0 in District 1-5A with the wins. Leading the boys in scoring was Justin Fondren with 22, while Devin Blackmon and JaMarious Taylor had 19 and 15 respectively. The Lady Chargers were led in scoring by Erika Sisk’s 22 points. The Oxford 9th-grade boys also won, topping Saltillo 36-22 to improve to 6-2 on the year.
Darryl King and Tony Lyles led the Chargers with 10 and 8 points respectively.
Oxford returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Lafayette beginning with junior varsity girls action at at 4 p.m. JV boys are set to play at 5 p.m., with the varsity girls and boys scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. respectively. (January 17, 2011, Page 8)
