Oxford splits doubleheader with West Point

Oxford’s girls basketball team defeated West Point on Friday night to remain undefeated in District 1-5A play, while the Green Wave defeated the Oxford boys 69-60 in the nightcap. The Lady Chargers improved to 17-2 with the 72-57 win over West Point and then 18-2 with a 61-45 win over J.Z. George. Coach Shayne Linzy credited a great team effort to earn the wins over the weekend.

The Chargers were led by Justin Fondren’s 28 points in the loss. Laquintis Robertson had 21 points to lead West Point, while Cortez Malone had 15. West Point led Oxford 32-25 at the half.

The Chargers (11-9 overall, 2-1 in district play) and Lady Chargers return to action Tuesday at home agaisnt Saltillo. Action gets underway with a JV boys game at 5 p.m. (January 24, 2011, Page 8)
