Oxford hoops sweep New Hope

The Chargers and Lady Chargers opened District 1-5A play on a good note with a sweep of New Hope on the road Friday night. The Chargers beat New Hope 81-61 thanks to 32 points from Justin Fondren. DeShaun McNeal chipped in 15 points, while Luke Gibbs added 12 points. The Lady Chargers improved to 15-1 with a 70-49 win. Erika Sisk led the Lady Chargers with 33 points, Lameshia Gillom had 13 points, while Kristen Dickerson added eight rebounds. The victory was earned by assistant coach Stacy Malone, who subbed for head coach Shayne Linzy. Both OHS teams were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at home against West Point, but those games will likely be rescheduled due to Sunday’s snow. (January 10, 2011, Page 7)
