Over the weekend the Oxford 8th-grade boys basketball squad made a clean sweep at the North Panola tournament, going 3-0.Oxford claimed the title with a 40-36 come-from-behind overtime victory over Tunica-Rosa Fort on Saturday in the title game. The Chargers had trailed by 14 points at halftime but rallied late to tie it up and send the game into the extra frame.
In the first two games, Oxford topped Coldwater 43-31 and South Panola 30-22 to improve to 13-2 on the season.
In the three-game tournament, K.T. McCollins averaged 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks per game, while Michael McGhee also averaged 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks per game.
Josh Gibbs and J.R. Anderson each averaged six points, while D’Kameron Hutchins averaged four points per game to round out Oxford’s leaders.
“I’d like to credit the bench,” coach Marlon Bell said. “They came in and played well. I can’t leave those guys out.”
