The No. 18 Ole Miss women’s tennis team concluded a successful opening weekend to the 2011 season Sunday by winning five of six singles matches against Missouri at the Memphis Winter Invitational. For the weekend, the Rebels went 24-3 in singles and doubles at the Racquet Club of Memphis.Germantown native Connor Vogel had a great weekend in her old backyard, going 6-0 in singles and doubles. She concluded it Sunday with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win over Missouri’s Kaitlyn Ritchie.
Norwegian standout Caroline Rohde-Moe made her debut this weekend and went 4-0 in singles and doubles. Against Missouri, Rohde-Moe came back to defeat Mallory Weber 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Abby Guthrie split sets with Maria Christensen before Christensen retired. Laura van de Stroet downed Jamie Mera 6-3, 6-0 and Gabby Rangel defeated Mahdi Besovic 6-3, 6-3.
Ole Miss will host Southern Mississippi Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the Gillom Sports Center. The match begins at 2 p.m., and admission is free. (January 17, 2011, Page 7)
