The No. 18 Ole Miss men’s tennis team’s streak of 17 straight National Team Indoor Final 16 appearances ended with a 4-2 loss at No. 13 Louisville in the championship match of the ITA Kick-Off on Sunday.Despite gaining the early lead with the doubles point, the Rebels fell behind 2-1, as Louisville picked up straight set wins on courts six and one.
“Louisville is tough to beat on their home courts, which are very fast,” OM coach Billy Chadwick said. “It was a very difficult place to play, but the guys gave it everything they had. We were very close to pulling it out. Kalle played great, and it was fun to see him back in the lineup. Jonas fought hard, but his guy was just better today. Tucker (Vorster)’s guy played a great match.
“We have to re-group and get ready to face a tough Ohio State team at their place and then a good Mississippi State squad down in Jackson (Feb. 10) in the Mississippi Cup.”
The Rebels will face another tough challenge this week as they head to Columbus, Ohio Feb. 4 for a match against No. 4 Ohio State. (January 31, 2011, Page 8)
