OHS, LHS claim Invitational titles

Oxford’s boys and Lafayette’s girls powerlifting teams took home titles in the third annual Oxford Invitational held Friday and Saturday in the Oxford Middle School gym.The Chargers had two lifters win first place in their respective classes, while six other lifters finished at least third in the event.

Oxford totaled 42 points, one more than second-place finisher Tupelo. Lafayette’s boys were third with 36 points. North Pontotoc was fourth with 28 points, Senatobia was fifth with 24, Olive Branch totaled 21, Oxford’s B team had 6 points, while Holly Springs finished with 2.

Lafayette’s girls totaled 68 points to win the overall girls title, while Oxford finished second with 39 points. New Albany rounded out the girls totals with 14. Lafayette had five girls finish in first place, six finish second overall and one in third to help claim the title. (January 31, 2011, Page 8)
