Kendricks sets pole vaulting record

Oxford track standout Sam Kendricks pole vaulted 15 feet at the Arkansas High School Indoor Track and Field Classic in Fayetteville, Ark. The vault earned him a third-place finish and it set the mark for the top indoor pole vault performance in the state of Mississippi all time. The previous record, 14-6, was held by both Steven Greer of Clinton and Kendricks, who is now 13th in the nation for the 2011 season.

“It was a very long competition. With 37 vaulters in the competition from around the country, the boys had to endure a four-hour pole vault marathon,” OHS track coach Scott Kendricks said. “At times the boys had to wait 30 or more between jumps and that’s tough on you mentally.” (January 18, 2011, Page 9)
