Title game a long time coming for Jags

An appearance in Saturday’s Class 4A title game has been a long time coming for the North Pike Jaguars. When head coach Chris Smith moved across Pike County from rival McComb, the Jaguars were fresh off of a 5-5 season in 2006, and a 2-8 season in 2007.

Smith said he left McComb, where he had won a state title as a player in 1984 and coached on two more state title wins, because he wanted to help build the North Pike program.

Well, mission accomplished.

On Saturday, the Jaguars (14-1 overall) will be riding a 12-game winning streak when they face the Lafayette Commodores (15-0) at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson. (December 1, 2010, Page 6)
