BLOG: Rebels hold on to snap USM’s winning streak

Ole Miss men’s hoops squad was able to hold of a late rally by the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to earn an 86-81 victory.Ole Miss led 44-34 at the half, but Southern Miss opened the half on fire from the floor and eventually overtook Ole Miss on a free throw from D.J. Newbill at the 9:50-mark.

“I didn’t think they were ever going to miss, they got into a great rhythm,” Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy said of USM’s second half shooting.

Chris Warren led the Rebels(4-2 overall) in scoring with 20 points, while Zach Graham contributed 16 and Nick Williams contributed 13.

R.L. Horton and Gary Flowers led Southern Miss (5-1) in scoring with 20 and 19 points respectively.

The loss snapped Southern Miss’ 5-game winning streak.

Ole Miss will return to action December 11, traveling to Arkansas-Little Rock. (December 4, 2010)
