OMS sweeps LMS

Oxford middle school girls and boys basketball teams got the Christmas break off to a good start with four wins over Lafayette Thursday night in the OHS gym.The seventh-grade Chargers improved to 6-1 on the year with a 26-12 win over the Commodores, while the eighth-graders won 24-19 to improve to 9-2 on the year.

Kyree White led the seventh-grade with 13 points in the win, while Dee Fair added seven. Coach Marlon Bell credited D.K. Metcalf with a good all-around game on defense as he recorded several key steals. Oxford led the Commodores 19-4 at the half of the victory.

The eighth-grade Chargers were paced by Michael McGhee’s 10 points in the win. David Dennis and Josh Gibbs each scored four points.

Oxford had to come from behind to post the win as it trailed 11-9 at the half.

All four Oxford teams will be back in action Jan. 6 at South Pontotoc. (December 10, 2010, Page 8A)
